DR. SCHLEYER'S POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

After completion of your procedure and upon discharge from the hospital or surgical center, all patients will have varying levels of post operative discomfort, swelling and mobility restrictions. It is crucial that post operative instructions are followed without exception to ensure pain control, prevention of infection and re-injury, as well as optimal healing.

You will be provided with clear instructions, including when you will be seen for follow up, medications with clear instructions for use and educated as to what to look out for as signs of possible side effects.

It is extremely important that you call the office should you experience uncontrollable pain, extreme swelling and heat at the surgical site, fever, chills, excessive bleeding, trouble with surgical dressings or issues with post operative splints or braces.

Although rare, medical emergencies can occur. If you are experiencing what you deem to be a medical emergency, you should report to the emergency room or call 911.
